Different Strokes........

Everyday People
(Sly and the Family Stone)

Sometimes I'm right, but I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the baker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I'm in

I am everyday people
Yeah, yeah

There is a blue one who can't accept the green one
For living with a fat one trying to be a skinny one
Different strokes for different folks
And so on, and so on and scooby-dooby-doo

Ooh, sha, sha
We got to live together

I am no better, and neither are you
We are the same, whatever we do
You love me, you hate me, you know me and then
You can't figure out the bag I'm in

I am everyday people
Yeah, yeah

There is a long hair that doesn't like the short hair
For being such a rich one that will not help the poor one
Different strokes for different folks
And so on and so on and scooby-dooby-doo

Ooh, sha, sha
We got to live together

There is a yellow one that won't accept the black one
That won't accept the red one that won't accept the white one
Different strokes for different folks
And so on, and so on and scooby-dooby-doo
Ooh, sha, sha
I am everyday people

From top to bottom, we have Bhudda, Jesus, Madalyn Murray O'Hair, and Krishna (in a cartoon, no less). I would have had one of Mohammed but we know about that no pictures thing. In every one of these pictures, these people are doing the same thing..laughing,  being happy, enjoying themselves. WHAT A CONCEPT!!!

I have noticed that many adherents of different philosophies, religions and political idealogies tend to take themselves too darn seriously at times. Some take themselves too seriously ALL the time. See, I've watched us moms take it from all sides, of late. On Facebook, we Natural Mothers were hand-slapped by a good Christian and we know you can't be good unless you are a Christian, according to that contingent. I made a joke from the funny status bar and caught hell from some conservative loved ones who thought I was advocating gun control. Actually, I am in favor, but not rabid about it.

Then I was taken to task by my beloved son for voting the Democratic ticket in the last presidential election. Talk about rabid! He's been knowing that I lean to the left for quite a while. He must have had a burr up his butt last night.

It makes me wonder when people take time off to just enjoy being themselves, to learn to live and let live and realize that it takes all kinds to make a world. Everyone is too busy making boxes with labels and then trying to put everyone they know and quite a few they don't know into what they think in the appropriate box.

Look around, folks. So far, until we know there is life on other planets, we are all in the same box. Our individuality is what makes us interesting. And laughter is what makes life worth living. I'm really finding it funny that I got so pissed about this. Has anyone ever noticed that you make more typographical errors when you are mad?

This goes along with the post from yesterday and Musing Mother's excellent blog from today. Anger has its place in our lives and can be a wonderful tool if used correctly. But you can't stay angry all the time and have a balanced life. Hyper-sensitivity is a sure-fire avenue to a miserable existence. I am devoting today to love, laughter, a good DVD and snuggling with hubby and pooch.

Life is too short for taking exception to small stuff and it's getting shorter every day. Laugh it up.

Great idea, Robin! I'm laughing, and laughing, and laughing.....

I love these laughing faces! I think that others must see us as these serious, glum, righteous dudettes, plotting and planning all the time. If that were true, when would any of us have time to spend with a grandchild or spoon with a husband?

Life is precious! I don't want to waste any of it on things I am not passionate about, and laughing is one of them!

When I want to giggle, I simply call another "bitter, angry old birthmother" and we laugh our asses off! That's the truth!

Leaving the net now, to play with my granddaughter...pool time!!!

Robin....sorry but I just cannot find it within myself to hold hands with Palin Praisers(Sarah that is!). I have to draw the line somewhere, for my own emotional well-being!!

And I actually do have a pretty good sense of humor, actually life itself can be pretty humorous with the amazing cast of characters that inhabit our lives at different times. Sometimes you just gotta laugh to keep from cryin'.

BTW, I had the 45 of this song..way, way back when. Good Song! When music actually had a real message to deliver to the masses.

Well, Chris, seeing as how one of them is my youngest son, I have to make allowances. But we do agree to disagree....most of the time, anyway. ;P

Amen, Robin. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, or even another second for that matter.

While I believe it is important to take a stand for what one believes in, I agree that everyday is a blessing to be enjoyed.

Live loud. Laugh often. Love totally.

(my own version of the popular one) :0)

I love the picture of Jesus. He looks like Bob Marley.

I am a democrat who has a concealed carry permit & I belong to the NRA, lol.

Dan is a Republican...if we can make it work, anyone can. Bwahahahahaha! (or maybe it's that I know how to shoot?)

Thanks, Linda. Now go tell my son to lighten up. :(

Laughter is an important life skill. There are people teaching it now with Laughter Yoga. Laughing at ourselves builds confidence to participate and learn new things. Kind of like Chris said. We've got a choice to laugh or cry through our lives. Laughter brings more happiness. I prefer being a happy fool to making a fool of myself through serious effort.

Linda!
I am a Raging Democrat, Liberal to the bone, married to a died in the wool, life long Repuglican (and a Texas one, at that!) whose name is also Dan. We have said the same thing. But, we NEVER talk politics!

And, Chris, I also draw the line at Sara, who my dan thnks is hot...slipped out one day in conversation, at which point her retracted when I began to choke on my tongue! Doncha know, hey!

That's three of us except that my Republican is Darrell and not Dan. But he doesn't like Palin either..says she's a wing nut. Oh, and I also just received my license to carry a concealed weapon. Hey, I live in Florida.

Poem made up by my hubby..

She leans to the left,
I lean to the right,
But we lean to each other,
When we turn out the lights.

LOL
